1 ½ c. shortening (butter flavor is best
2 c. sugar
2 egg
½ c. molasses
5 c. flour (mix in 4 ½–4/¾ cups first)
4 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt
3 tsp. cinnamon
1 ½ tsp. clove
1 ½ tsp. ginger
Cream shortening and add sugar, egg and mix. Add molasses. Add dry ingredients. Mix together. Roll into large balls and then roll in sugar. Press slightly with fingers to flatten. Put on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10–12 minutes.
