Ingredients

½ c. butter
1 c. flour
¼ c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
¼ tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 slightly beaten egg white
¾ c. finely chopped walnuts or pecans
1/3 to ½ c. jam or frosting

Directions

Cream butter with a mixer. Add the sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla. Add the flour & salt to the mixture and mix well. Chill the dough. Shape into 1 inch balls. Roll the balls in the egg whites and then roll in the nuts. Place 1 inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Press the centers with your thumb. Bake at 375 degrees for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned. Cool the cookies. Just before serving fill with your favorite jam or frosting. Very good!!
